Palma Real Golf Course

Featuring a characteristic design by Robert Trent Jones Jr. This golf course harmonizes with nature with is coconut plantations, natural lakes, lagoons and tropical vegetation typical for the Pacific coast. Players do not only get to enjoy one of the world’s best golf courses but also the change to be in touch with nature. The course is surrounded by coconut palms and other species of palm trees, mango, guava, avocado, lima, orange and almond trees, and even coffee plants. Bright flowers accent the green vegetation. An ocean breeze provides refreshments, and the backdrop of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains adds a dramatic frame for this beautiful course.

Mexican and foreign environmentalists consider these grounds the equivalent of a wildlife preserve. Golfers can watch and hear the great variety of exotic birds like flamingos, cranes, parrots, cardinals and a rare Eagle species called the “fisherman” because it feeds exclusivelu on the fish in the lakes. Iguanas and giant rabbits can also be seen. Golf players do not bother to recover their golf balls from the wáter hazards as these are the habitat of crocodiles. They generally remain submerged and out of sight, but take stroll around at dawn.

The fairways are meticulously maintained and the greens are repaired daily. An elaborate irrigation system utilizes the treated waters of a treatment plant with the most advanced technology in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. As part of a process geared towards the ecological áreas of the master plan of FONATUR (National Tourism Development Agency), this treated wáter is used exclusively for the irrigation of the golf courses as well as the Green áreas in Ixtapa. The success of this method is obvious: plants flourish and everything is Green.
